"Somewhere between a building and a ruin, this retained façade represents a sculptural and absurd construction. As well as raising questions about 'façadism' and heritage conservation, this ephemeral construction symbolises the contradictions and conflicts that different cities face in the face of urban regeneration processes. The intervention is part of a regeneration project in East London, which includes the renovation of Toynbee Hall, the improvement of the public space surrounding it, and the construction of apartments and commercial spaces. Weeks after the building was finished, and the blue metal structure was removed, my partner and I went and stood in front of the façade. Why are we here? He asked me, without recognising anything of the scene."
