Elsa Bolívar / Objects with a chessboard

Sale price$200.000

One of the four works that won the "Woman Artist Award".

Elsa Bolívar was born in 1929. Due to her affinity for abstraction and aesthetic principles, she participated in the Grupo Rectángulo between 1956 and 1975, adopting formal geometric structures in her painting. Her most notable works were the colorful flat surfaces and the line, soon betrayed by circles and ellipses with a less rigid stroke and spiral curves. “Objetos con tablero de ajedrez” (Objects with a chessboard) (1954) shows her transition to abstraction and contains elements that are always present in her later work, such as the snail and ceramics, which became important in her work from the 1980s onwards, when she was already detached from geometry and focused on the figurative.
