Josefina Concha - Image of Matter

In Josefina's work, sewing and threads replace painting. Approaching and distancing from the classic exercise of painting, approaching by emulating it and distancing by replacing it. By exploring sewing and the qualities of thread, the artist recreates pictorial gestures that range from the saturation of matter to the synthesis of the line, and from the expressiveness of the stain to the definition of an image, increasingly indefinite and evocative. The result is visible in a work dominated by the superposition of wefts, which generate volume and body, in addition to a rich treatment of color that achieves suggestive images that appeal to the ephemeral.

"Nature has been my refuge in this pandemic, where I have strengthened my relationship with it. I have been able to know it in other dimensions; the rain, the wind, the snow, time, which stops and passes at the same time. All this has meant new forms and textures in my work, giving another opportunity to these encounters. Previously they were interior and everyday spaces, now instead, the corporeal, the living. This body travels inside and outside the workshop, with lights and shadows, returning again to the stoppage of time, pausing, observing, reflecting on something that we still do not know what it is. This intuition appears within a new imaginary, giving space to the creation of the image of matter."
