Woman Art Award
Carmen Piemonte / Solealum II / Oil on canvas / 2008
Carmen Piemonte, Julia Toro, Cornelia Vargas and Elsa Bolívar are the artists who will receive recognition from Bank of America, in collaboration with Collectio, Studio Digital and the Chilean Chapter of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
The award, managed by Antenna, aims to pay tribute to a group of female artists over 70 years of age, highlighting their work and career, as well as supporting them in the dissemination of the selected works, which will be put on sale through a digital platform.
The call for artists was launched in October and 12 applications were received. The final selection was made this first week of November by a jury composed of representatives from Fundación Antenna, the Chilean Chapter of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Studio Digital Collectio and Bank of America.
“Women have always been part of art manifestations, but much of it has been left out of the official narrative of art history. Only a small group has managed to challenge gender gaps, to train themselves, sell their work and gain recognition. With this award we want to recognize the career of four Chilean artists and pioneers, who have contributed to the development of the culture of our country through high-quality and consistent work that they continue to do with profound creativity.”
